Thanks for the tip Bob! Yes, I had heard about those little magnetic shunts
for current limiting but didn't know they'd mess up regulation so much,
otherwise I probably would have left them in and wondered why I was having
problems. I don't know for sure if this is applicable to loading coil
service although if I do use a MOT for that I'll still tap out the shunts
just to be sure, but certainly for HV power supplies. These things are great
for big PSUs, TCs, etc., and free (from junkpiles! :-) One more reason why I
wanted to use one for this project.
