As I understand it spark was banned because it used up
too much spectrum space, However with modern tuned
microwave filters it would be easy to filter the
output of a spark microwave transmitter to a very
narrow wavelength. If you cemented a piezo disk to one
side of the filter (tuned cavity) you could feed audio
to the piezo disk and frequency modulate the rf
output.
So spark fm is possible. With a high frequency spark
am was transmitted by using a bank of carbon
microphones in the tank circut of a spark transmitter
the exact date escapes me but it was before 1920.
