That's what I think. 60kc is so stinking loud here with just my finger
getting near the antenna connector. Something isn't right as I know my
signal can be heard at her distance real easy. That Ashlock Loop design just
works wonders around here!!!

Something is definitely up ... my receiver is 40 years old, the audio
final is blown so I have to use a crystal earphone to hear _anything_, it
won't tune LF so I have to use a homemade converter, and my antenna is
just a 75' wire.  Even so I can hear WWVB at 60 kHz night or day, and
Loran at 100 kHz REALLY booms in.

I'd try another receiver, if you have one.  Wish I did :)
