Re: Continued Discussion On The One-Turn Loop

Mitch, you've provided some good details on your setup with one-turn
loops. Thanks.

I'm familiar with Burhan's use of that particular audio xfrmr. That was
covered in that R&E series on Hi-Z pre-amps I mentioned. New here was
the use of it for input. I have the xfmr-ref'd. article titled "Lots of
Loop stuff!," but the article doesn't address the loop coupling device,
only the preamp xfmrs. I'll get the other article soon as its server is
up, I found it down all morning.

I currently have a yard mounted 6-foot spider loop w/ 21 turns. It
feeds a indoors preanp that recently had some problems: it became dead,
an open FET, and it's now fixed. [Lyle helped out finding an open base
on the input FET.]

I made one attempt at a 8-foot square shielded loop, using half-inch
EMT. It was strung w/ about 10 turns of no. 18 hook up wire and tuned w/
a BC Vcap. I didn't like the mass of it and there were other issues at
that time that made me switch to open box-type loops, which I like
better for ease of modifying and their lightness.

Have you (others?) tried both types of loops and compared them at the
same location? It would be interesting on hearing the results or even
speculating on them. Of course I'm referring to the open, multi turn,
tuned loop vs. the single-turn, untuned, shielded loop having similar
capture areas.

Well, thanks again.

Peter
