The best noise immunity would come from leaving it floating. If you are
concerned with providing a static discharge path to earth, I would suggest
center-tapping it and running that point to earth through an inductor. That
provides a DC connection with less effect on balance.
In case of a direct lightning hit, focus the fire extinguisher on the
inductor.
