So it's a fat figure '8' eh? Here's some more details on the signal Vs 
heading for a loop:

30deg = -1.25db; 40deg = -2.31db; 50deg = -3.83db; 60deg = -6.02db; 70deg = 
-9.31db;  80 deg = -15.2db;  85deg = -21.2db

Probably the most signal attenuation (null) off to the side is about 25db. I 
used to wonder why Jon J. to the south near Plymouth, MA (56mi) sees WA with 
dogbones almost strong as as John A, 40mi to the east and right on the beam. 
Now I see that Jon's heading is actually about 65deg or only a -7.5db 
attenuation. This path is partially over sea water so this is another reason 
for the srength.
