[Lowfer] Band conditions

My transmit loop hears very well. I seen "WA" last summer with it and it
points North/South. I can see Ralph in Louisiana on 166.5kc very well and it
isn't even tuned down there. I have never tried a RX loop, only an active
vertical and it doesn't even come close to the TX loops sensitivity at all.
Noise isn't a problem here with the TX loop used for receiving.

Hi Larry : Just a quick comment - and based just on my experiences with big
loops. I did build up a couple of 100 ft "octo-loops" using coax. One was
North-South and the other East-West. Open shield at the top and with option
of preamp at the bottom. They certainly worked well as far as increasing the
signal voltage available - but the noise level increased just as rapidly. My
general impression is that the SNR gets worse when the "octo-loop" gets much
over 12-15 feet. I might just build up another east-west this week, and do
comparisons with the east-west octo-loop and give you more definite details.
I have not tried a single wire, series tuned loop (coupled thru a toroid, )
such as the transmitting loops the loopers are using - so they may wish to
comment.... I think Mike found his quite good, before he began transmitting
regularly.
