[Lowfer] Rx Loops

Hello John: I can see WE, LEK, BRO and RM, have seen some stuff on 185.300
but nothing strong enough to identify. The loop is tuned by a series of
capacitors, it's made out of 75 ohm video cable ala Radio Shack, wound on a
six foot square frame. I use a single turn shielded pickup loop. I don't
have a preamp but get a substantial increase in noise switching from my mfj
vertical to the loop(preamp + noise = more noise),so I haven't tried a
preamp. I have copied Lyle on the vertical. Using a TS450 sat as the rx.
 So anyway what puzzles me is how can I receive a groundwave signal from
over 370 miles and not see any skywave from ie, WA. This could lead one to
assume that a 300 mile groundwave signal is stronger than anything I can
receive via skywave.

Is the loop tuned? Is there a preamp at the loop? How is the loop connected?

The signals are there. But WA, VD and NC are at a considerable distance from
you. If WE is operating, he would be closer (though his xmit loop
orientation may be an issue). Conditions were not good earlier this week,
and that may be part of the issue.
