Hi Vern,

I see you are planning a LF vertical ant. The advice on NOT using top
guys also as a top capacity hat is sound--too much droop and coupling to
the vertical radiator where it's not wanted. A Tee-type arrangement is
commonly doable, it's what I use, strung between a tower and pole on an
outbuilding. But if wanting only a mono-pole, then a large capacity hat
using radial poles to hold up a gridwork of connected wire is okay. Also
the vertical pole doesn't have to be large or metal. A small gauge wire
will do running down a wooden or plastic pole.

You mention using drain pipe but do not specify PVC and AL. I have used
large 3 inch by 18 foot PVC for holding a 5-foot loop okay. used one set
of top guys [4] on it. Going beyond that would take more guying and
thought, esp. for a tophat.

On receiving Lyle at 400 miles ... my guess is no, assuming you are
thinking audibly.

Bill: Thanks for the info on the antenna.

Been trying to come up with a way to maximize top loading with
causing a mechanical nightmare, slopeing guy lines
        seemed to be the easiest.
Was also wondering if someone has tried to use drain pipe as
the
antenna material, it's cheap and light.

Also I am under 400 miles from LEK was wondering if I could
possible
hear his signal, not set up for Qrss or Psk yet.

Planning to be on 137 khz this fall with about 200 watts was
wondering if anyone one had a lead on a surplus transmitter
either Broadcast, NDB or shipboard type that can be moved
there.

        Thanks for the quick respnse
