And flammable. As you get into the hundreds of watts on 137 kHz, that can
become an issue, as some of the European hams found out. Voltages above the
loading coil can be very high on license-free 1 W rigs, and this increases
with (a) the square root of the power; and (b) the inverse of the frequency,
as resonating inductance has to be increased to tune an antenna of a fixed
length to lower frequencies.
With your objective being ham-type communication, rather than US-Candian
LowFER operation, you would find it advantageous to go with as much height
as is feasible at your location.
