[Lowfer] The Never Ending Saga that is the Beacon Listings

Just completed updating the LWCA and Noise Floor web sites. Thanks to all the
operators who used the "EZ Beacon Update Form" to submit their changes.

Welcome to our newest beacon, Hifer beacon GA!

Also, I'd like to suggest to John and the group that we strongly reconsider the
way that beacons are listed in the Lowdown and on the web for this coming
season.

Personally, I'd like to see a notice posted here and also in the Lowdown in
July
that requires all beacon operators to contact either John or myself to list
their
status before August 30th.

If an operator fails to respond, we simply don't list their beacon until we
hear from them.

To my mind, this will greatly reduce the amount of mis-information that we
are currently
spreading. Many, many of the beacons currently listed are not really
active. Each
season countless time is lost listening for beacons who simply are not
there. Likewise,
these listings often appear in other publications such as Monitoring Times,
Popular
Communications, etc...and may turn folks off to the hobby when they can't hear
a local beacon that is listed, because that beacon isn't on the air anymore.

I know that radical thinking like this is sometimes not well received, so I
figured
we should debate in during the summer...long before DX season.

For? Against? Pros? Cons?
