Hi Nick & Group,

Does it give you that error without any load attached
to the input(s)?  I would think it near impossible to
get the OVLD light to light up without a load.

The Op Manual doesn't list an E 3.1 but . . . it does
list a E 3.0 .  It states:  Instrument Failure.  At
least one of the phase locked loops is unlocked.

That one doesn't sound good.  I wouldn't panic yet as
almost any error message is regarded as an instrument
failure.

SRI I couldn't be any more help.  I occasionally get a
CE-4 (calibration) error myself which I do not know
what it means.  Otherwise my HP3586B seems to function
quite well for me.
