Peter,
** Off LF List **
Hi John,
Re: LF Balun Work Previously Discussed
You wrote last on 4-16 about what I thought was a balun problem used on
a series tuned loop. This is a follow-up now that I've done some more
work on that project.
Well, the loop is tuning now and using the original balun xfrmr. Seems
my original problem was using too much C to tune the 27 turns, then 24
turns, loop. Using abt. 200 pF it tunes to 200 kHz, which is where a
known weak NDB is available for testing.
I also tried your idea for a 1:4 balun and that worked fine too; it
seemed like more sig strength, as I recall. So now I have another LF
balun!
Still having a prob using Lyle's single ended LF pre-amp to work in a
Low Z mode. I've e-mailed him on that.
Looks like it's moving along.
Thanks for the interest.
Peter

Do me a favor, and do it as a primary/secondary transformer, two
separate
windings, opposite sides of the core, 25 turns on each side. If you
want to
try the 1:4 experiment, do 12 turns on the loop side, and 24 turns on
the
receiver side.
