Hello, lowfers!
This past sunday was a good for hamfesting. I was at the Sussex Co.
(NJ/USA) hamfest and, what a find! 5kg spools of .25mm enameled wire
for $15(USD). I picked up two. Now, to rig an ELF antenna!
Everyone has seen this, right: http://www.vlf.it/
The story: http://www.vlf.it/inductor/inductor.htm
is what I have in mind. From my calculations, I should have some 78K
feet of wire. A bit more than this fellow. Still, my wire is smaller
and I'll have more resistive loss.
So, before I start cutting, spinning, and soldering, does anyone have
any suggestions of just what kind of device I should make? Construction
techniques? Design considerations? Warnings (don't do it, it'll never
take the pressure, Captain!)
Oh, on related good news, I got a little proto-board to mount my AD9832
so that I can start messing with it (from PIC--think multimode beacon).
I've also got an NJQRP audio beacon coming soon--www.njqrp.org 'PSK31 audio
beacon'. Basically a Scenex/Ubicom SX28 processor at 50MHz with an 8 bit
R-2R D/A. Hmm, software DDS and beacon all in one. And, only $25 for the
whole kit. More updates as they happen. :)
Cheers,
