I have the spreaders cut and drilled. They are lightweight maple about 3/4th
Inches Square and 41 1/2 inches long. There will be five wires running
through them. The total span will be 80 feet. Now the question, should I use
#22 Teflon insulated stranded silver plated wire of which I have several
thousand feet of, or use #14 galvanized steel wire which I have 1/2 mile
of??? The two trees that are on the ends do not move, as the trunks are over
two feet wide up at 50 feet. The center will be hung from a rope in an oak
tree at about 55 feet. I don't need to have the flattop pulled drum tight as
I have a scheme of keeping the thing from twisting in the wind. I plan on
using this antenna on the lower HF bands as well with a matching network.
Will the steel wire, if needed, be a good enough conductor at the lower HF
frequencies??? I know the silver plated wire will be good on HF bands.
Thanks es 73's,
