Sorry to hear about the toasty converter.
I am using the IC706mkii for LF as well. I am using it without any
converter.
This preserves the frequency acuracy needed for QRSS60.
Instead, I use a good home-brew pre-amp with low pass filters before and
after the pre-amp
as well as clipping diodes before and after the pre-amp (pre-amp side of the
filters). My sensitivity is something in the
range of .1 uv now in the lowfer range and S3 band noise is common in the
winter. I am very lucky that line
noise if rare for me in the LF range (not so lucky at VHF) because the noise
blanker does not work on
this model. So far so good on keeping my devices working. You probably
just lost a device that is perhaps easy to replace.
