G'day Bill,
I see 9kHz as the next experimental frontier. After only achieving about
one mile (1.6km) with 380W into a 80m earth dipole and receiving on an
untuned 10-turn air loop, I certainly have got a good understanding of the
challenges!!! If you are not tightly bound to the "strictly radio" arena,
you might try loading up an earth dipole and receiving on an earth dipole in
a "soundcard-to-soundcard" galvanic connection. I would be surprised if
you can't make a connection over at least 10km using one of the narrowband
techniques gaining some popularity on LF.
