I agree that as long as one follows the rules you don't have to homebrew
everything. In my case it was a challenge and a neccessity.I conquered it
even though the only reception reports have been from my neighbors in KS
just about 3 miles away.However even that would not have been possible
without many e-mails to Lyle and Les who have always taken the time to
answer ALL of my questions no matter how trivial or simple they might have
seemed to them.
I remember my first attempts on 1750 meters in the mid 60's when 3 of my
fellow hams and I worked AM across town and we followed an even stricter
interpretation of the rules on our own.
My last hospital stay gave me time to design a new more stable system with a
bit more frequency agility than my present system and with a K1EL ID'er will
be able to run QRSS. My "dream" is still better stability and WOLF !! I will
make it in time !!
