John,
In a word...? Crummy.
I have a 6790 and it is a great RX in the bands it was intended for.
Check the Sherwood receiver page. The receiver has excellent dynamic range
above 500Khz. The way to trick the receiver is as follows:
Say you want to take a trip to "Loopsville" Mass.
First press the digits to tune 10.185.300 Mhz.
Secondly press the "0" again as if you were going to enter another freq.
but stop at this point. You are now riding the bus to Loopsville.
However if you attempt to change freq. by means of the main dial you will
get kicked off the bus for bad behavior!!
To tune another freq. you need but another ticket and do the process again.
Tedious.
I really lucked out and found a VLF to MF converter on EBAY. The unit
upconverts from 3Khz to 500Khz to 2.003Khz to 2.500Khz
It takes 5 bands to do this and it has a built in preselector.
And best off all it is made by RACAL and needs a freq. Standard input which
comes from my GPS.
Just be careful if you you buy one of these. Excellent at 500 KHZ and above
but watch the first mixer.
It uses FETs and wihile pop if you blow a good fart at it. Mine did,,,,
what does say about me?
Don't get me wrong I really like the RX

Anyone have any experience with this receiver? I heard you can trick it
down to VLF. Is it true and how is the VLF performance.
Thanks,
Jon
