Bob,
Nothing to be sorry about. I operated my original beacon, XMGR
in Kittery, Maine in much the same fashion for the first several
months. I used an inverted "L" that was about 200 feet long...
clearly illegal, but also clearly a very poor performer anyway.
Best DX as I recall was about 112 miles into the Boston area...
but very, very weak. Later I put up a short 30 foot vertical
with a tophat and was amazed at how much stronger the
signal was. So don't feel too bad about using that illegal
antenna.
Glad to see new beacons come on the air. We haven't had
as many newcomers this season as in years past. Let me
know when you'd like it added to the listings.
