With all due respect to Ed and others, there is no real need for this
thread to continue. Those of us who subscribe to the Lowdown are
not members of a club at all, which was clearly explained by
John Davis.
And since I've been involved in this hobby since 1983, I'd hardly consider
myself "new". I'll also gladly stand on the merits of my own contributions
to the LWCA and the hobby in general. Anyone who thinks that I'm
interested in driving old members out, or have an intention of leaving the
LWCA in ruin, clearly hasn't been paying attention.
Despite being a licensed amateur radio operator for 32 years, I continue
to amazed at how a hobby that should attract those most interested in
experimentation and pushing the limits of technology attracts such
a large percentage of people whose primary interest is in protecting
the "status quo".
In recent weeks, I've been termed an overworked type A personality,
a control freak, and now a newcomer to the hobby. Enough.
I apologize for being uninformed about the current status of the LWCA.
As John as pointed out, it is really just a magazine. One that I think we
should continue to support for lots of reasons.
Also, for the record my interest in this hobby is in exploring the limits of
weak signal communications. I have no real interest in CW beacons,
SSB nets, AM broadcasting, NDB DXing, natural radio, cave radio,
HIfers, or VLF. That is not to say that others are not welcome to pursue=
these
interests and also to fill the pages of the Lowdown and this reflector
with news and discussions about those topics.
I HAVE NO DESIRE TO CONTROL THE EFFORTS OF OTHERS.
My desire was to try to provide some structure to the efforts of those
interested in weak signal communication on 1750 meters and to
try to help shape the future of an amateur allocation on LF. It appears
that those efforts are unneeded, unwanted or both. My apologies.
Now, please drop this topic. I'm sorry I ever started it.
