Sorry, but the number of hours spent by Lowfers haggling over:
"(b) The total length of the transmission line, antenna, and ground lead
(if used) shall not exceed 15 meters."
is more conveniently measured in thousands, not hundreds. The discussion
goes back to the early 1970s, at least. Of course, back then they had 9
inches more to argue about, because the length was 50 feet.
Despite the merits of almost all of those arguments, the real reason why
that simple definition has persisted is that we have stayed below the FCC's
radar horizon. When asked to make judgement calls, government regulators
tend to be very literal. But, as I've said before, it's unlikely that the
subject will come up. As a group, we are very law-abiding.
