Actually, after bringing the subject up this afternoon, I started playing
with Irfan View based on Lyle's suggestion. While I already use it for a
bunch of other things, I never realized that it does screen captures. As
Bill Ashlock noted, Pspice (student version) is a good way to do small
diagrams. The catch is that the limited student edition doesn't do a proper
export of a drawing, and the copy to the clipboard is squirrelly. BUT, with
a Pspice diagram up on the screen, you can easily take a screen capture of
it with Irfan View. Once you've got that, Irfan View will let you crop it,
title it, and save it in whatever format you wish.
As John Davis suggested, save stuff in non-lossy formats if it will
eventually be published. Use the GIF and JPG files for email and web sites.
You can always save a good picture in a lossy format, but the reverse
doesn't provide a free lunch.
Anway, the Pspice + Irfan View combination seems to have the most potential
of anything I've tried.
