[Lowfer] Caps across coax

I'm helping a new ham in my area get on the air. He
recently purchased a new Icom 718 and also one
of their automatic antenna tuners.
When he mentioned to them that he would be using
a longwire antenna fed with coaxial cable they suggested
adding a .1 MFD capacitor between the shield and ground
of the coax (at both ends of the run) to help reduce noise
pickup.
Has anyone ever heard of this practice and does it seem to
work?
