[LOGic] MOVING LOGIC TO ANOTHER PC

I tried that when I moved from XP-32 to Win 7 x64, by first copying the old
directory over to the new machine, and then installing into that directory
from the original CD. The software would run, but threw a lot of different
errors at startup. All were not fatal, but were annoying to clear manually
before I could get going.

Doing a virgin install to a fresh directory and upgrading that installation
with the latest version and table updates worked fine. After that I
configured tables for the ST0, some of my user defined fields, DXTelnet,
LOTW memberships and so forth. It took a few hours, but I picked up some
new information about Logic that I had missed over the years, so I think it
was worth it. I wrote most of it down in a word document I can send you if
interested.

I sure hope you enjoy Win 7 x64 better than I have. I have it on two
identical machines, and neither are completely bug free - lots of problems
with my display adapter drivers (ATI HD5770), most of the unsigned drivers
that run stuff for Ham Radio make me run the installation with unsigned
drivers allowed, which has some security risk. Lots of the virtual stuff
that I need to make a Flex radio do all the neat stuff are flakey in a
64-bit environment. But, the box runs really fast, right up to the crash.

Good luck and 73,

Hank

Subject: [LOGic] MOVING LOGIC TO ANOTHER PC

I am about to upgrade the old hamshack PC to something with more horsepower,
running WIN7/64.

I succeeded in installing LOGIC8 onto the new PC from the last CD.

It seems to me I have read a "forklift upgrade" method, whereby, once the
basic program is installed, in the Registry, and running, that the user can
simply copy entire directories over a LAN to the new PC.

I know how to use the logbook "BACKUP/RESTORE" routines, but wish to go
beyond this, ie cloning the entire old LOGIC database, setups, etc., to the
new system. Monitor sizes will remain the same, as will callbooks, and other
frills.

Can someone please help me with the "forklift upgrade"? Any caveats on
things that must be manually tweaked? If this info resides in an archive
somewhere, that would be equally helpful.

Thanks and 73

Dan
