I just tried doing a fresh backup on my system to get a sense of what your
problem might be. I did notice that when it first erased my "old backup",
the full file name seemed to indicate it was, like yours, in C:\Documents
and Settings\etc...... It then made the new backup in C:\ (the root
directory of the C: drive), and when I look there with Windows Explorer, I
find the new file, C:\LOGBACKUP5.PDABACKUP  So, it is making the new backup
file, and it is storing it in the root directory of the C: drive. I frankly
do not understand the initial reference to C:\Documents and Settings\etc.

You might try directing the backup to another drive besides the C: drive.
Unless you have a very large log file, you can easily backup to a floppy
drive, and it will span over more than one floppy disk if that is required.

The backup facility in Logic7 also has an advanced tab, where you can direct
the backup to be stored in other than the root directory, but it does not
allow spanning more than one floppy. 

You might give this a try and see if it gets around your problem.

 I have lost my backups....as they were erased while trying to make a

I have uninstalled and re-installed L7, but the error remains.
