[Logic] SERIAL PORT ERROR?

Kelsey-
I am interested in the operating system you are using and the USB and serial
boards you are using. I have been plagued by serial port expansion boards
that don't use Microsoft-validated drivers and which have conflicts with
Windows XP. For instance the Belkin FSU device works well with Windows 98
and has a driver which is supposedly ok with XP but is not certified by
Microsoft. It is well known in the Writelog community (which I also use)
that the Belkin driver will lead to frequent crashes on some XP machines and
infrequent crashes on others (I have infrequent crashes on several machines
which with difficulty can be traced back to the Belkin driver). I notice
that the few multi-port cards remaining in stores have drivers which were
written for Windows 98 and may state they are compatible with XP but which
have similar problems.
Most of the USB-derived ports work ok with most transceivers but as far as
the Writelog gurus have found none (other than the Belkin) support RTTY FSK
because they do not implement what is called 5-bit mode. I recently talked
to the Comtrol folks who told me their USB-based units indeed do not
implement 5 bit mode.
I am trying to figure out how to get additional UART based ports on my
card-slot starved Dell. If you have ones you have found work well with XP
I'd appreciate hearing the details.

Sorry to hear of your port problem, I had the same problem with other
programs a couple years ago, I can tell you that another program has not
released the port and until it does you will have problems.
I am sorry I can't remember what the fix was.
I am now running 4 serial ports and 6 usb with no problems, You may want
to consider installing a couple more serial ports and that may solve
your problem.
