Go to device manager and see how XP has assigned com ports.  I have a 4 port
card that starts with com 4 through 7, com 3 was skipped.  Com1 and Com2 are
on board the mother board.

Since your saying that xp is recognizing your card and all four ports I
would suggest that you are connecting to the correct port.  My card has a
pig tail arrangement with 4 db9 connectors.  I had a dickens of a time
hooking up to the correct port as the db9 cables are black and it was
difficult to read the number on the cable.
