For what it's worth, I have a similar Dell but with Windows 2000 Pro and I 
have never had a problem with LOGic or other software updates.  I wonder if 
it's an XP issue?  I usually do get an error message about a missing kernel 
but when I click OK, everything proceeds perfectly .
