We had a very productive, yet lengthy meeting last night. We had a
turnout of 23 people, which sets a new "high" meeting attendance rate for
the past few years. Please continue to spread the word and invite more
hams and non-hams alike to join us!

We enjoyed a very informative presentation from Donna Dubberke of the NWS
office in Davenport. There are some issues with the current weather net
situation. Some things were worked out last night and some were not. We
are going to meet on Monday, August 27th at 6:30 p.m. at Sunrise
Restaurant in Macomb. This is not a LEARC business meeting, but the
purpose of this meeting is for all interested (anyone can attend) spotters
to meet and to help create a WRITTEN procedure for severe weather nets on
the local amateur repeaters. It was noted that a written protocall once
existed, but it's MIA. I'll have another email following that meeting,
but please remember that non-severe weather traffic is unwelcome and
unwarranted on the 147.060 MHz repeater during severe weather nets.

Severe weather watches and warnings for adjacent counties (and Adams Co.)
will again be relayed over the 147.060 MHz repeater. This practice was
temporarily discontinued the past several months, but it will return by
popular request from our many listeners in adjacent counties. It is noted
that if you are passing severe weather watches or warnings for adjacent
counties only, please include the following caveat at both the beginning
and the end of the message: "There is no imminent threat to McDonough
County at this time."

A new four-bay, two-meter dipole has been ordered for the repeater and
should arrive later this week. Mark, KA9SZX and Rich Sample are going to
coordinate the erection of the new antenna. McDonough County has agreed
to foot the bill, but if the project exceeds allotted monies we may need
to kick in some financial help to pay the bill. There should be no
problem erecting the antenna UNLESS we find out that the sidearm itself is
bent, which will open up an entirely new dilemma with that situation.

We are working on storing and properly taking inventory of Rolla's
equipment that is being donated to the club. I expect to have a full
inventory of all of this equipment at the next meeting. The club can then
decide what we wish to do with equipment at that time.

Copies of the constitution were given to all paid members. Thanks to
George for making the copies!

August net control assignments:

08/19 - Brandude, KC9ILN
08/26 - Ken, KC9ERB
09/02 - Dustin, KC9LRC
09/09 - Jesse, K9JLR

Regards,

Jesse, K9JLR
President
