WHAT:   Skywarn Recognition Day--A FUN Amateur Radio
        Operating Event

OBJECT: Contact as many participating National
        Weather Service ham radio stations
        as you can.

WHERE:  On the air: 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6,
        2 meter, and 70cm bands
        Phone, CW, PSK-31, Echolink

        In person:  National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office, Romeoville, IL & Lincoln, IL will be open to hams wishing to drop by and operate from their stations

WHY:    To celebrate the contributions that
        volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make
        to the National Weather Service.

Skywarn Recognition Day is the National Weather Service's annual event
recognizing Skywarn volunteers.

SKYWARN RECOGNITION DAY NATIONWIDE

Each year in December, hams throughout the nation visit their local National
Weather Service (NWS) facilities to set up stations at for this 24-hour
operating event.  The goal is to celebrate the contributions that volunteer
SKYWARN radio operators make to the National Weather Service throughout the
year by communicating with as many other amateur radio stations as possible.

Skywarn Recognition Day 2006 starts on 6:00 PM CST Friday, December 1, and
continues for 24 hours through 6:00 PM CST Saturday, December 2. (That's
0000 Z December 2 through 2400 Z December 2.) Participating stations can be
found on the 3.5, 7.0, 14, 21, 28, 50, 144, and 440 MHz bands.  Most
activity is on phone, but there is also activity on CW, PSK-31, RTTY,
packet, Echolink, and IRLP.
Repeater contacts are allowed.  NWS offers a nice certificate for
participation in the event, with endorsements for contacting different
groups of NWS stations.  More information is available on the Skywarn

SKYWARN RECOGNITION DAY ACTIVITIES AT THE NWS CHICAGO WEATHER FORECAST
OFFICE

Skywarn Recognition Day stations at the NWS "Chicago" Weather Forecast
Office in Romeoville will be operating during the full 24-hour event period,
using the callsign W9S.  Operations are planned on the 3.5, 7.0, 14, 21, 28,
50, 144, and 440 MHz bands, using SSB, CW, FM, PSK-31, and Echolink.

Hams from throughout the Chicago Weather Forecast Office's county warning
area will be visiting the office in Romeoville to set up, operate, and tear
down the stations.  Amateur Radio operators and their immediate families are
invited to come to the Weather Forecast office and operate radios and visit.
