Flood Watch
355 am CDT Fri Aug 27 2004

...Flash Flood Watch today until 6 am Saturday morning...

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for locations along and south of
a Vinton Iowa to MT Carroll Illinois line...or along and south of
Highway 30 for today and tonight. A strong but slow moving cold front
is producing widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Midwest.
A wave will form on this boundary producing periods of showers and
storms across the region through this evening and well into the
overnight hours.

Many locations in the watch area have received one to three inch
rain totals this evening and overnight...saturating area soils.
Additional rain amounts of one to three inches are expected with
localized amounts in excess of five inches possible by Saturday morning.
For locations that receive an additional three or more inches...the
potential for significant flooding would be quite high. At this time
the greatest risk of flooding is south of Interstate 80...with a
slightly reduced risk north of Interstate 80.

A Flash Flood Watch means rapidly rising water or flooding is
possible within the watch area. If you are in the watch area...check
preparedness requirements...keep informed...and be ready for quick
action if flash flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
