The following is an announcement from Vandenberg SFB:

"Guardians and Airmen from Vandenberg Space Force Base are scheduled to support the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the NROL-48 mission on Monday, September 22. The launch window is scheduled between 10:23 a.m. and 11:23 a.m. PT from Space Launch Complex 4 East. Following the launch, the rocket’s first stage will return to Landing Zone 4 for a back-to-base landing.

Residents in areas near Vandenberg Space Force Base will hear a sonic boom during the first stage landing. Additionally, Vandenberg’s analysis indicates that an audible ascent sonic boom may be heard over the cities of Ventura and Oxnard approximately 8 to 10 minutes after liftoff.

For more than 60 years, the National Reconnaissance Office has successfully met the needs of its U.S. intelligence, military, civil, and allied partners. It remains the world's leader in unique intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. Monday's mission is the eleventh overall launch of the NRO's architecture and fifth proliferated launch of 2025. This launch will mark the Vandenberg Spaceport and Test Range's 49th launch of 2025.

Vandenberg SFB continues to provide safe and reliable access to space in support of national security and homeland defense.

A live webcast of this mission will begin about five minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch here: https://www.spacex.com/launches/nrol48 and on X @SpaceX."

Weather permitting, the event could be visible to the unaided eye from as far away as 100 statute miles.
