Answering myself, I measured two individual 945nm LEDs I have on hand 
with a Coherent meter.  A Radio Shack (276-0142) emitter yielded 15mW 
@150mA; a SuperBrightLEDs piece (RL5-IR2730) produced 25mW at 150mA.

Assuming the 48-LED illuminator LEDs yield something like the RadioShack 
part, that's 720mW, or 1.2W if they are more like the SuperBrightLEDs 
part, driven at 150mA each.  If each LED consumes (1.4v*0.15)= 210mW, 
the array uses ~10W and should get pretty warm, I'd th
ink.
