hi Stuart and the group

I was wondering if there was any kind "official" record of distance
with these single LED as both emitter/detector type tranceivers? I
told Stuart i thought maybe 6.5km was some sort of record.

A long time ago - back in the 70's, i remember seeing a construction
article design for a single LED type tranceiver but i have been unable
to find it again and haven't seen any since. It would have been
around 1970 to 74 or so. It was even earlier than the "Opticom" i
think and used a red LED. It might have been in that magazine
Electronics Experimentor or Electronics Design or maybe even Popular
Science. I remember Popular Science had an article about a hand-held
laser tranceiver back then that looked a lot like binoculars but no
schematics. (it must have had a small HeNe tube laser i'm guessing
or one of the first generation diode lasers)
