 Are you really using a ldr for receive? I thought they were far to slow and insensitive.
Your RS led is not the best option, go for part number 665 6189 instead, it is more powerful and can be made to receive also.
I cannot help you with contacts and activity, you are nearly 300 miles away! (I wish I could)
I presume you have looked at Clint's, (KA7OEI) website, it has proved invaluable to me.
