Tim
Regrettably one very bad weather is foreseen during the eclipse in France.
The flash beacon is a very good idea.
It seems to me to have a little chance to detect it, the pulse power must be
very over.
The moon curvature will enlarge the pulse and will reduce strongly the peak
value.
To have a little chance to detect something, the good way could be to sample
the signal with a very precise clock synchronic with your TX flash rate and
the expected pulse flying time.
With a very long averaging between "out time pulse signal" and "expected
pulse in time signal" a cyclic variation could be find?
However I prepare also my APD infrared receiver.
The PSU can be adjusted near the Geiger point and I will use a very narrow
infrared filter near 900 nm.
A threshold detector can extract every pulse just at the the noise pulses
level.
It is rough but I have not better device for narrow pulses for the moment.

With a little luck it will have a clear period between the clouds here...
