Paul,
Your first results show a very good RX  sensitivity.
You will notice the plane positioning flash lamps can be heard  very far on 
line of site or by cloud bouncing.
I did a test with F8DO with a  20 joules stroboscope flash for night club.
F8DO could hear the beat at 40 km  from my QRA from the clouds but only if 
the repeat rate was less than 5 pulse  each second.
Above the signal seems disappear.
We have no explanation  about this phenomenon.
May be it is the loaded / unload charge time effect in  the PIN photodiode 
capacitance in the K3PGP RX.
