You may be hearing what is referred to as the "Taos Hum".  People all over 
the world hear it but it was first noted in Taos NM.  

There is or was an internet discussion group devoted to the Taos Hum.  I'm 
not sure of its existence now but if you do a Google search for "Taos Hum" 
you will probably come up with a ot of info.  You might want to check
