Steve Knoll offered to run some filters for me years ago, not even sure if
he is on the laser list these days. Anyone with an optics lab will have
high buck equipment that makes short order of testing filter bandpass.
A wideband light source can be made with a D2 lamp. Add a diffraction
grating and a detector and you can sweep the entire visible/near IR
spectrum easily.
Using sunlight and a diffraction grating is even cheaper, although you're
dependent on the sun and weather to take measurements.
There was mention on the list one time of an easy to modify spectral tester
that pops up on ebay for 10 to 15 bucks, but I don't remember any of the
gory details. I think it was a list member who had one of these.
Laser Sam has a section on using a CD as a diffraction grating for
measuring the output wavelength of lasers.
