[Laser] Laser on CDs XE2AT

If the chip you saw is on the moving "head" then it has several detectors
for tracking and reading of the CD. It probably does not have an amp. Give
it a good look with a magnififer. Also trace the connections, find the
ground and power then try it.

If it's the Burr Brown OPT210, then it is a good choice for a front end. My
opt210 can detect a laser signal that you can't see and has given good 5 x 7
speech and 599 CW over 76km.

There are data sheets available. There is also circuit for a receiver on my
web site. If you decide to build that, drop me a line as we've managed to
extract another 6dB+ of sensitivity since that circuit was drawn

For later CD recorders or DVDs you'll also have a nice high power laser
diode. However your early version is probably a couple of mW of I.R.
