Bob,

I know David/G0MRF is using some "micrometer adjusters".  I'm sure he 
could fill you in on the details.  We (there's a group of us here in 
Rochester) are looking at using 4-40 screws and some springs to sparate 
two metal plates.  I think you get ~1mm per rotation.  Put this on the X 
and Y planes and you can stear your setup very slowly, provided you put 
a big knob on the screws.

Here's the basic concept, though I find it a little difficult to 
reproduce without some diagrams.  You seem to have the right idea.  It 
gives you a good reason to use your high-school trig  :-)
