Hello Andy
Perhaps you can use a band pass filter for the laser light you are using and
it will sure cut down the ambient light from other wavelengths. You can use
interference filters as they are very sharp. Try Mellos Griot for it or
Edmud Scientific etc.
You can also use a long tube to house the photo sensor deep inside the
colimated zone to cut liht from other directions.
One the ambient level is down, you can use AC amplifiers in place of DC
amplifier to amply the received signal. If you have used standard fequency
to modulate then you can use a modem IC or band pass filters to get
amplified signal and then remove the modulated from received signal.
Is there anything else you wish to know?
Shyam
