Working on a somewhat similar system but using cube prism as diplexer
allowing use of same antenna for both TX/RX simultaneously. Antenna is 12"
aluminum parabolic reflector.
Not in Sacramento (not even in CA!) but thought would add my input on what
I'm doing...
Yea, Kerry! Great article, and very glad to see LEDs being used more, am a
big proponent of LED sources myself.

Mike don't know if kerry N6IZW mentioned our new system similar to the old
one
electronic wise, but different in that we found a 5 7/8 inch main objective
Glass, with a 1 1/4 inch hole in center 525 MM focal length. Tests so far
indicate lens not telescope quality but good enough for sighting thru system
with cube prism at near focus to split system into to outputs one for aiming
to
lense and another to photo detector. System in construction stage. Have
attached
pix of front end of system with laser and beam expander in hole in lense
collimated with front objective fairly good so far. Chuck WB6GP
