To all in the group:
While we're on the subject of PIN photodiodes -
All Electronics is currently offering their Cat. no. PD-3 which are large
area PIN
photodiodes from UDT (United Detector Technologies) Sensors Inc. These are
in a 1" dia., glass windowed BNC connector package and are UDT Part. No.
PIN-10D. These are
an exceptional deal at $5.00 each!!! (and no, I'm not affiliated with All
Elec. in any way, I just like to notify the group whenever I find a
worthwhile offering which I feel might benefit everyone.)
These are professional research-grade large area PIN diode detectors,
normally costing MUCHO $$$$ and thus normally out of reach of the average
amateur
experimenter.
Checking with the UDT Sensors .pdf datasheet for the PIN-10D, (get it at
www.udt.com) the most
important specs are:
Photoconductive mode (biased) PIN photodiode
Active area: 100 mm ^2
Dark current @ 10 volts bias: 2 nA typ., 25 nA max.
Responsivity:
@ 400 nm, min. 0.07/typ. 0.12 A/W
@ 632 nm, min. 0.33/typ. 0.40 A/W
@ 970 nm, min. 0.60/typ. 0.65 A/W
Capacitance:
@ 0 volts bias, 1500 pF
@ 10 volts bias, 300 pF
NEP (watts/sq. root Hz) 3.9 e-14
Max. reverse volts: 30
Risetime, @ 10 volts bias, 632 nm, 50 ohm load: 43 ns
According to UDT these are specifically designed for laser communications
applications, among other things like professional spectrophotometry.
Also, for IR buffs like myself, these have very high responsivity to well
past 1 micrometer wavelength (a whopping 0.6 A/W avg. @ 1 um, and better
than 0.15 A/W @
1.1 um) - much more so than most commonly-available PD's.
