Two different product managers for the HE and HA line plus the HE-10,
HE-30, and HE-80 embodied the older style machine gray cabinet. Pretty
much the same color was used on the HE-15, HE45 series, and HE-50 series
plus several of their early HE CB sets. Most of the "HA" series,
excluding the HA-600 and 800, had the turquoise cabinets. The HE-80 was
advertised in the Lafayette 1964 and 65 catalogs but it never
materialized. Word has it that Trio engineers had other priorities.
However, Trio had introduced the ER-202 in late 1963, so some Trio
engineers cobbled together a 6 meter converter (ER-202 had a 2 meter
converter) and new front panel and created the HA-225 to substitute for
the HE-80. Lafayette, in their 1966 catalog, ran an ad for the HA-225 but
unfortunately Trio decided to drop both the ER-202 and the HA-225 that
same year. The original HE-80 Trio engineers, I guess were now back on
the job, and finished the HE-80 that they started several years earlier
and Trio started substituting the HE-80 for any orders for the HA-225.
Lafayette's main catalogs generally had a 9 month lead time so, for the
HE-80 and HA-225, the catalog never was in sync to what we actually had
in stock to sell.

I'm looking to add a tube-type Lafayette receiver to my group of SWL
radios. What would be your suggestion for a "band cruiser" set? I've been
looking at the HA/HE series including the '225, '80, '30, etc.
BTW - Can someone tell me the main differences between the HA and HE
series of sets?
Thanks and 73 to all,
Bob
