tuning rate and instability must have really been a  challenge!

The Precon is really a great little box. I used mine ahead of  a Heathkit 
HR-10 on 10 meters a couple of years ago when the band was open.  Really 
hopped up 
the  sensitivity.

Hi Harold. I make a simple mod to the HE-73. I put a separate on/off switch  
in the back of the chassis. This way, you can have the Precon powered up and  
ready and use the front on/off control as a simple bypass. Otherwise, every 
time  you switch the stock Precon in and out, you have to wait for the tubes to 
warm  up. Basic design boo-boo there. Other than that, they work really well 
and they  are cheap! Like I said, I bought 3 and THEN wrote a good review on 
eHam. ha  ha
