Every year "Spring Fever" hits about this time.
Activity goes UP and reporting goes down.
A lot going on in April. SkyWarn activations were not uncommon and we
are seeing the annual public service opportunities arise again with the
warmer season.
You will notice a drop in our membership roll above (number 4 and 5). I
asked all EC's to recheck their rosters to be sure we had accurate
numbers and info. Apparently, many are going inactive. I also cleared
the leadership rolls of those who took positions and yet never report or
try to function in the program after a reasonable time period. A lot of
positions are now open for new blood and new ideas.

Notes from across the section:
On April 26th the new Ohio Co. repeater began operation in Area 3. Dale
Watchorn (AEC) and EC KG4KOJ completed the installation of the repeater
with significant assistance of Bruce Nanny(KD4BOH) and Bob Hobby
(KC4ZOJ) of the Ohio Co. EMS. The frequency is 145.17(-). Presently it
is not using a tone. However, a tone of 77.0 hz. can be activated if
needed. Weekly Ohio County ARES Net is on Tuesdays at 7:30pm. on the new
repeater frequency! To date, subsequent contact reports suggest the
repeater is stable with good county coverage.
Scott County amateurs are undergoing CERT Training this month.
The Woodford County Amateur Radio Club provided safety and traffic
assistance to the Falling Springs Triathlon bicycle race on 4/23.
Amateur radio was active at the Fayette County MS Walk and at *
olex-Kentucky 3 Day Event. This is the only 4 Star equestrian event in
the US. Amateur radio operators provided handicapped and spectator
shuttles, and were "a second set of eyes" for public safety.
In preparation for NIMS compliance, EMI's IS 700 and IS 800 are being
promoted section-wide. While it is not MANDATED for amateurs in Ky as
yet, as responders with other agencies, I feel we have a responsibility
to play by the same rules that they do BEFORE they have to either make
it mandatory for us or tell us to go home.
