Thanks to Dave Greer, N4KZ for this heads up.

House Bill 364 proposes to raise a number of state fees, including the fee for amateur radio license plates. The bill is sponsored by Representatives Steve Nunn of Glasgow and James Carr of Hopkinsville.

At present, hams in Kentucky must pay a $25 fee when initially applying for a ham callsign plate that is good for 5 years. The bill would raise the fee to $30.

The bill would raise the fee on many Kentucky auto plates, not just hams. In fact, the bill proposes to raise the fee that legislators themselves pay to have special legislative auto plates. Their fee would also increase from $25 to $30 for a five-year tag. So, the bill does not single out hams. It seems to include many groups.

The bill has gone before the House Local Government Committee where it seems stalled at present. That suggests it doesn't stand much of a chance of getting passed by both houses of the legislature at this point but, on the other hand, you can never tell what might happen.

If you already had this info, I apologize. But in case you didn't have it, I thought you would want to know about it.

A complete copy of House Bill 364 can be downloaded from the Legislative Research Commission's web site. It's a long one.

Further digging reveals that House Bill 364 is far from being stuck in limbo. In fact, it could come up before the full House at any time.
