Storm Season will be here sooner than you think! Classroom type spotter
classes are the best way to become trained to conduct SkyWarn Spotting
operations, for those who would like a primer or a review before
attending a class, I suggest the following:
http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/guides/mtr/svr/home.rxml
http://www.kyham.net/emcomm/skywarn/ is the place to find out about
SkyWarn freqs in use in your area. There are also links to the NWS
offices which serve Kentucky. Check with the NWS office nearest you for
listing of SkyWarn training classes going on NOW!
http://www.cimms.ou.edu/~doswell/spotter_history/spotter_history.html is
the URL to an interesting historical piece on spotting "Storm Spotting
and Public Awareness Since the First Tornado Forecasts of 1948" written
by: CHARLES A. DOSWELL III,NOAA/ERL National Severe Storms Laboratory,
Norman, Oklahoma , ALAN R. MOLLER, NOAA/NWS Weather Forecast Office,
Fort Worth, Texas and HAROLD E. BROOKS, NOAA/ERL National Severe Storms
Laboratory, Norman, Oklahoma.
